It may seem difficult to believe that God is working for our good when we do not see evidence that He is doing so. We may be like doubting Thomas who wouldn’t believe that Jesus was alive until he could see and touch Him: Jesus said, Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed (John 20:29 NIV).
When we see others suffering it’s easy to wonder how God could possibly use that for their good. It may help us to believe that He will, if we consider the many things that we do believe – even when we cannot see them for ourselves.
For example, the universe. We can see less than one percent of what we believe exists out there. Think of it. There are trillions of stars that we cannot see, yet we believe they are there.
Do you believe that if you were out in space the earth’s gravity would no longer pull you downward? There are many things that we believe without having actually experienced them.
We believe the incredibly complex things that scientists have discovered about our body.
I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful; I know that full well (Ps. 139:14).
We may never see with our eyes that this world is round, but we believe that it is. As we practice praising God, we will experience new reasons to believe that He is working for our good!
God asks us to believe that He is always working for our good. He may or may not let us see what He is doing, but He will help us learn to believe. Ever since God created mankind, He has been telling us that He wants us to believe Him.
As we are learning how to believe God, we can listen to or read what others have experienced. Just as some have seen the earth from space, others have seen God working in the most difficult situations for their good. I’ve recorded many of these experiences in my books and will continue to do so for as long as God gives me the strength.
God wants us to learn how to believe Him whether we learn from our own lives or by learning from what others have experienced. Jesus taught His disciples, and they recorded what they learned. Now you and I have the joy of learning that God is always working for our good.
In case I haven’t told you, I believe He is! (Reprint from May 2007)
